End-of-year celebrations at primary school: mountains, cities of art and hands-on maths
The primary school classes ended the year with activities outside the classroom: two trips combining nature and art, and an activity that brought maths to the supermarket shelves.
Year 3 pupils in Ceresole Reale
Classes 3A and 3B spent two days in Ceresole Reale, on the edge of the Gran Paradiso National Park, staying overnight in Noasca. The first day was devoted to an educational visit to the Ceresole dam; the second to a guided hike in the park and activities at the CEA and the Noasca Visitor Centre, including nature observation and local workshops.
Year 5 in Verona
For classes 5A and 5B, a three-day trip to Verona exploring Roman civilisation, the ancient world of writing, and the legend of Romeo and Juliet. The trip began at the Arena with an interactive workshop, followed by a guided tour of the city. At Juliet’s House, the pupils reconstructed the origins and spread of the legend through a journey of riddles, puzzles and anagrams. The final day, at the Capitolare Library, amidst manuscripts, parchments and goose quills, concluded with the workshop ‘Brushes and colours: illuminated initials’.
But the best part of the experience was meeting 18 of our pen pals and their teachers, who had travelled all the way from Lithuania to see us 🎉🎉🎉
First and second courses: maths leaves the classroom
The Year 2 classes turned the supermarket near the school into an open-air classroom: with a small budget at their disposal, the pupils put themselves to the test by calculating the cost of the products, working out the change, and estimating the total by rounding off the figures. The Year 1 classes had the same experience in their own way, setting up a supermarket in the school hall and inviting some parents to take part.
