"What are you doing, moon in the sky?" Liceo Vittoria honoured in Rome

On 5 May, at the Centro Esperienza Europa in Piazza Venezia, the Liceo Linguistico Europeo Vittoria received a nationally and internationally recognised award: the prize from the L'Età Verde / The Green Age Association, as part of the 51st International Macroproblemi 2026 Conference.

The theme of this year’s event was “From the Sky and Earth: a Continuous Dialogue with Science”. Liceo Vittoria entered the competition with the STEAM project “What are you doing up there, Moon? The Moon through History, Science, Poetry, Art, Missions and Projects”, created by pupils from classes 1A, 1B, 1C, 3B and 4ACD.

The project spanned a wide range of disciplines and languages. It began with the discovery of the first exoplanet in 1995 and went on to explore the Moon through science and mathematics — using shadow measurements in the Cavour Gardens to study astronomical rotations — but also through literature, from the stars of Homer and Dante to Leopardi’s *Canto notturno* and on to Calvino. There was no shortage of proverbs and idioms in Italian, Spanish, English and French, a competition for metaphysical poetry in English, and a section dedicated to the Moon in art, from ancient Greece to modern iconography.

The project benefited from collaboration with the Turin Planetarium and the Rome Astronomical Observatory, and was developed with contributions from the STEM, Linguistics and Art departments.

Prof. Campagnoli coordinated the event; Prof. Baracco collected the plaque, the technology award, the certificates and the books for the science library, and also presented the research at the conference in Rome.
