A week full of experiences for the little ones

Three different experiences, all with one thing in common: people who brought their own world into the classroom.

Pollock with Grandma Cindy

Cindy, an American artist visiting her grandchildren — two of our pupils — ran a workshop on Jackson Pollock’s action painting. The children painted with free, spontaneous movements, flinging and dripping paint, discovering that painting can also be about movement. Every piece of paper turned out different from the next. Thank you, Cindy, for sharing your work with us.

The Heart with Dr Coniglio

As she does every year, Dr Chiara Coniglio returned to the Preschool to talk about the heart. One of Italy’s first female cardiac surgeons and the grandmother of two of our children, Dr Coniglio has a unique way of explaining complex concepts to young children. The children asked questions, listened, and learnt some practical facts about how their bodies work. Thank you, Doctor.

Light and darkness in space

Armed with torches, black sheets, glow-in-the-dark wristbands and star projectors, the children explored light and shadows, and discovered why space is almost completely dark. The workshop combined hands-on experiments, storytelling and play — with a few moments when even a fear of the dark turned into curiosity.
