Florence MUN 2026: debating global issues at ISF

On 27 March, we boarded the morning train to Florence — eight students from 1st and 2nd ICE, accompanied by two teachers. Our destination: the International School of Florence (ISF), host of FloMUN 2026, a UN-style conference where student delegates represent countries and debate real-world issues.

Over three days, we worked across official UN committees — Human Rights Council, C40 and UNESCO — tackling topics ranging from indigenous peoples' rights and access to outer space, to the obstacles girls face in education worldwide.

Day 1

Arriving at ISF, we were struck by the school's setting and scenery. The opening ceremony featured inspirational speeches on the value of the programme — and an unexpected highlight: a meeting with Kim Campbell, Canada's first female Prime Minister. After our opening speeches and a first round of lobbying — building alliances and negotiating with other delegations — the evening ended with a dinner event at Terrazze Michelangelo, overlooking the city.

Day 2

Back at ISF after an early breakfast, we divided into our committee rooms. We presented resolutions, learned to propose amendments, and voted on whether clauses should pass. The atmosphere was both professional and fun — working to protocol while still making new friends.

Between sessions, there was time for refreshments in the school courtyard and lunch on a veranda overlooking the Florentine hillside. In the evening, we headed into the city centre for a traditional dinner — bistecca alla Fiorentina included.

Day 3

The final morning brought the last debate sessions, the closing ceremony and the awards, where the headmistress recognised the Best Delegate and Honorable Mention among participants.

After saying goodbye to the friends we had made, we made our way back to the station — leaving Florence with great memories and, we think, sharper debating skills.
