Senzatomica: Year 9 pupils visit the peace exhibition

Classes 3^A and 3^B of the Middle School took part in an educational outing of great civic and educational value at the Le Serre Cultural Park in Grugliasco. The occasion was a visit to the 'Senzatomica' exhibition, an awareness campaign aimed at promoting awareness of nuclear disarmament.

An immersive experience

Accompanied by their teachers, the students embarked on an intense journey through history and current events. During the morning, they listened to testimonies from survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, explored the role of science through immersive experiences, and engaged in discussions in workshops dedicated to collective reflection.

Students' reflections

Here are some significant excerpts from the students' diaries at the end of the visit:

  • On awareness: "It's not a given that a school will teach about the atomic bomb in detail or take its students on a field trip... I learned many new things about atomic energy and what the survivors went through."

  • On the usefulness of educational games: "We played a game that at first seemed 'silly'... then I realised that no one wins by using nuclear weapons. I found it very useful and constructive for us and for our future."

  • On the emotional impact: "I found out when the Americans dropped the two bombs, Little Boy and Fat Man... Another thing that struck me was what might happen if a nuclear bomb were to land on Turin. It would destroy everything."

  • On the importance of disarmament: "I find the use of these weapons totally wrong because, in the end, even if there were a war in which all countries participated, no one would win."

A commitment to the future

In addition to learning more about history, the students appreciated the guides' willingness to answer questions and convey the value of cooperation between peoples. The visit to Senzatomica was not only a history lesson, but also a concrete invitation to our young people to become informed citizens and builders of a future without nuclear weapons.
